Retractable Screen Doors for San Diego County

Mirage Retractable Screen Feature Details

Powder Coated (5 step, certified)

Mirage Retractable Screens formulates their retractable screens’ finish to exceed one of the toughest paint standards in the industry for UV and salt spray resistance, the AAMA 2604. Further, Mirage Retractable Screens are the only retractable screen products with an externally certified finish: Q-Base Certified.

Be wary of our competitors’ non-powder-coated finishes, as they will show excessive wear and fading over the life of the product.

Super magnet (3x stronger)

Mirage super magnet

Mirage Retractable Screens come standard with a latching magnet that is 3 times stronger than our competition. This ensures that the screen does not accidentally open in high winds or other unexpected circumstances.

The Mirage Retractable Screen super magnet is also corrosion-resistant. Finding rusty magnets on our competitors’ year-old doors is not uncommon. Your Mirage Retractable Screen Door will fare better.

Mirage San Diego has tested many physical latching mechanisms. We found that the Mirage Retractable Screen super magnet is easy to use, performs well, and is reliable (as it has no moving parts). It is the best latching system we have found.

Internal Brass Bushings

The central shaft of Mirage Retractable Screens rotates in a silicon brass bushing allowing it to withstand hundreds of thousands of cycles without wearing of crucial parts. Our competitors use plastic bushings that do not endure prolonged usage. Mirage Retractable Screens regularly tests screens through 250,000 cycles. Yes, you read correctly… a quarter-million cycles!

Mirage Retractable Screens treats all internal moving parts with a long-lasting, temperature resistant lubricant to allow smooth movement while preventing corrosion and annoying squeaks.

Slow closer

Some of our competitors position their “slow-close” technology as an advantage over Mirage Retractable Screen Doors. Indeed, it makes for an impressive demo. They allow a non-slow-closing retractable screen door to slam closed on a plastic pen cap. The pen cap breaks.

Mirage San Diego has tested and refuse to include the slow-close technology, for two reasons:

  1. Slow closers are the direct cause of significant maintenance issues
  2. Slow closers are unnecessary

Slow closing retractable screen doors function well immediately after a proper install. But we have found a different experience 6 – 9 months later. While the slow-closer is typically properly balanced initially, over time, the slow closer falls out of balance. This pulls the closing rail out of square with the guiding track, preventing the closing of the screen. The “slow-close” becomes a “no-close”.

Slow closers are unnecessary. You will find the proper operation of Mirage Retractable Screens — keeping your hand on it through its full range of motion — to be quite natural.

In short, we refuse to add slow closing technology to our screen door installations because your long-term satisfaction is important. We believe Mirage Retractable Screens are a superior product without a slow closer.

Deep Track

The Mirage deep track helps to stops screen blow-out. It holds the screen in place during windy conditions.

Teflon guides & handles

Mirage Retractable Screens manufactures it’s guides using Teflon, which naturally provides a long-lasting low-friction operation of our retractable screens. Our competition requires monthly application of a silicone spray. Invariably, such maintenance is neglected and their products wear prematurely.
